When I arrived at about 9:30pm, there were some awesome sounds emanating from The Fox and they literally were pulling me in through the front door, like some kind of magnetic force. Thereupon I was greeted with the sights and sounds of an amazing band producing a beautifully balanced professional sound.

From there on, the night just got better really, as all round it turned out to be a rilly top one, especially for Jimbo Jagger and the boys from The Falling Rocks, who managed to successfully execute delivery of one of their finest loads yet, and also for everyone else who joined in the end of night jam sessions.

Perhaps the highlight of my night however was of course the return appearance by YourSpace favorites, the good ol' Trip boys, who pulled out a number of their masterpieces of contemporary Rock, to wow us all as they continue to refine their art beyond what us mere mortals could ever normally imagine (unless of course we maybe happened to go to a Trip concert that is!).

We had a great set of The Falling Rocks tonight and Jimbo was very happy afterwards. Perhaps the happiest I've seen him yet. Ended up getting Ben and Tim backing us up and some other guy was on the bass. We performed Sympathy, Queenie, 2000 Light Years, 2000 Man, and Who's Been Sleepin' Here plus some jammin. Chris and Kylie were there and it was nice to see them. Chris gave me a demo CD of Trip to checkout with 3 versions of Dragonfly on it. Grant was doing a great job as MC (as usual).

Missed YourSpace at the Sly Fox for the second time ever this week! Was too busy with work deadline for NES plus have no transport and was just not feeling up to it. No Jimbo performance this week either.

Performed Falling Rocks set at YourSpace at The Sly Fox after driving back from Braidwood with Mum and Cybele from Peter Herbst's funeral. Weichgeko.. backed us up (Pip, Max and Dave) plus other Dave guitarist got up to support us for one song too. A good set in that there were no disasters and Jimbo was very happy with the result which is an achievement in itself really. We all performed well without any reheasals ever together previously! Arrival was at about 9:30, we were scheduled for 10:30.

Missed YourSpace today.

In other news - Mark turned up today for first time in 2 years. He came to visit me at Botany with his bass and amp. Jimbo was here at the time and we did a fair bit of jammin and it was a bit of a time warp all in all. Joe was also here but he took off in time to perform at YS at 7pm.

Tonight we were treated to an amazing group of percussionists who came and raised the roof with a pulsating river of beats that got EVERYONE up and dancing. I can tell you - it didn't make it any easier having to play straight after such a brilliant performance, but at least they sure had the crowd revved up for us The Falling Rocks afterwards.

Slotted to perform at 10.45. Turned up at 9:30. Ended up performing close to 12 or later. Performed Ventilator, Little Queenie and Miss You, then Like A Rolling Stone, with Ben and Tim plus other Ben on Bass backing us up. Was pretty good overall, but there were many sound problems. Mics were failing, the foldback was out of action, and the left speaker was hardly working. Mum and Cybele (and Kathleen) came to visit but couldn't stay until we performed. Introduced mum to Tohe and others. In the end stayed till 3am and jammed briefly with Dave F and Karl before catching a taxi home.

Turned up in time for "half" hour gig at 9:30pm. Martin did not turn up again this evening. (He was moving house a few weeks ago) Performed best Stones set so far. Had Ben and Tim backing up me and Jimbo. Plus there was various bass players too. New guy Dave, and later on Joe I think we played: Let It Bleed Miss You ? Shadows? Sympathy It was a real rockin performance. The crowd was really revved up. Some girl and a bikie bloke were dancing with Jimbo on the stage floor while he was singing. Drove Matt and Pip to Pip's place in order to get closer to home then cabbed it the rest of the way.

The talent tonight was incredible. I'm not sure of all the names, but there was

• Bel Woods who performed an absolutely beautiful set,
• a truly fantastic 4 piece with girl with blonde dreads who I saw in Psychic Date at CAD,
• a hot young metal rock trio who I saw perfoming at other jam night at Milperra.
• Chris Wilson and his Deep Purple covers band.

Unfortunately there were not many recordings tonight. Afterwards jammed all night until 5am or so with Joe and Chris2.

The Big Night!

Wow! What a cool pad! When YourSpace meets The Sly Fox at Enmore, you know the night is going to be hot!

There was hot new talent, and there was hot not-so-new talent. There was the warm red glow of the well equiped stage, and the dazzle of the mirror ball. There was folk with feel, and rock like steel, and all topped off with the theramin with a touch of the feminine.

It was so good to have all our favorite bands there for the inaugral event. Hey Trip, Kilfeather, Kamakura, Jimbo, JohnyC, Ben1, Ben2, Galahs! - you 'guys' are the true spirit of Open Rock! (Remember - You heard it here first!) Rock On!

What heady days and night these are! What joy it is to have a voice, and to be able to listen! I remember when I still had my hearing, back when Kimberley Aviso took to the stage (in Track3) . Ah what beautiful moments they were. For now they are but one memory amongst so many other great moments from this night of celebration of the magic of music and electricity. Nuff said, or should I say nuffing said. For nothing can be said to convey my thanks enough to all the fantastic artists who appeared and supported each other at the CAD Factory Experiment (Part 1) over the last few weeks.

Master Scientist Dave Farquar invited all the ingredients of yet another successfull evening, to return and face their merry maker, in his cauldron of projector fire at his castle in the domain of Marrickville. An unforgettable evening ensued, which I've forgotten most of, apart from what I can glean from some of the fabulous recordings below:

YourSpace ventured into hitherto uncharted territory tonight when we were graciously hosted by the honourable Dave Farquar and the CAD Factory in Marrickville for the first time. This was the first time we've been released from the tiresome constrainsts of venue timetables and other unmentionable behavioural restrictions...and the result ?

This evening had it all. What a mad jam ... man! It was like YourSpace unleashed or something! My ears are still ringing, and my heart still pounding. Tonight we were treated to the entire gamut - an entire galaxy, of entertainment - from folk to comedy to rocK (with a capital K for kikarz)! The stars were shining bright on this night. All the favourites, including some recently missed, to make it an all round marvellous night of variety and fun!

Due to a very special request from a concerned (but not alarmed) citizen, we did not play at all this evening! Instead we sort of prayed more than played. We all just went to the Shannon and mulled around like chastised kiddies commiserating and plotting and planning our imminent return. When the revolution comes, the wowsers will be the first ones with their backs to the wall, a spotlight in their face, and a microphone in their hand ... plot ... plan ... plot!

So pending the construction of our new stage set in the promised land, at Pat's secret underground sound proof caverna which is now under construction, we must make do, and be content to listen to the soothing song of the brickie, and plasterer, along with the wailings of the wowsers, and the decrees from all the powers, that be - at the Shannon ..do..do..do.. at the Shan-non Hotel ...bup..bup..bup...Yeh!

Tonight we were all transported to another planet, called planet Theramin, only to be beamed back just in time for last drinks! Which all amounts to an all round amazing experience! Just wish you could have seen the performance, 'cause the visual was just as good as the audio! And then to top it off, we also had an appearance by the real Mick Jagger (Jimbo). Check it out!

All my love, All my kisses, No one knows what they’ve been a missin’ oh yeah…

Joe Ranalletta and I are getting better as time goes on. All I need to do is remember the chords, oh and the words as well. Joe is such a talent.

Ben d’ Spoon graced us with his first time presence. Hey, Ben, come back, it gets better and better!

Our all time mainstay is John Cunnane. We love his stuff, especially the last song he did tonight. You’re a star, Mr Cunnane.

SS Tony has talent. He’s also a very organized performer. By the time we got organized, we were sacked and he did it on his own; it sounded beaut, too, although I’m still not sure what he meant by that crack about the circus clowns.

Uncle Rex and Uncle Hal are reincarnated from the Eureka Stockade. Solidarinos, bershetsky. I’m ready to storm the Bastille.

By far, one of the biggest hits of the night was Corin, Matt, and Brett (alias Captain Correlli) as ‘Mary Gets Around’. Apparently, they had half an hour to rehearse. Who could tell? They were crisp,smart, and to the point. Great stuff and a brilliant sound!

Grantus tried to rouse us from our slumber. He promises to recite Homer’s Odyssey next time in pig-latin. 

Then, diving into the decks of YourSpace in a blaze of profound wonderment was KamaKura, who is our beloved Marni, Tim the drummer, and the beautifully named Soleil on her mystery machine. Here, Lilacs and Geraniums, we beheld history. We came under the spell of a Theremin, developed in the early 20’s by Leon Theremin (previously known as Lev Termen), the first Russian in (Your)Space. The MOOG we had the privilege of hearing is one of many models made by them from the 60’s on. The first production model Theremin was made by RCA in 1929. Actually, a common misconception is that that eerie riff in the Beach Boys hit “Good Vibrations” is a Theremin, whereas in actual fact it is a Tannerin, which could be made to sound like one. I understand the difference to be that, whist the Theremin is an electronic instrument, the Tannerin is a kind of fruit. RobRoy© turned up with Jimbo MacFadden and did some awesome Stones renditions. Jimbo is Jagger trapped in Keith Richards’ body. RobRoy© is a classic bass boy; solid yet adaptable. Always there. Good lad, och aye.

Noel the Richardson took us out as only he can, when rain stopped play. Much like Cliff Richards at Wimbledon. Apparently, a neighbour complained about our card night being too raucous. I think the bidding war has to stop! No more playing ashtrays I say -stick to cutlery.

A special thanks to Dave and Rosie, first time visitors (thanks for the pen guys!), Ruar who came with Warty but didn’t leave the same, Barry who’s a top bloke, and that chick who pretended to be a pain but really just wanted to join in. No worries, everyone’s a winner.

The dear loves who share it with us, as usual, are almost too numerous to mention: Ben Love and Bengay, Fern and Ember, Betty Boop-a-loop, John the POM, Lee the Marvin, (where’s Notsotiny Dancer these days?), Chris (who mysteriously had to disappear), the council guy who never turned up as promised, and every one of our supporters in the audience who make it so special.

Who can ever love our Queen of Pop, Deyne Leyveson, enough? Special mention goes to Hal and Martin, who are Crimson 6 and were their usual solid support all night. Hal is the master engineer of YS; only he knows where all the leads end up and which knobs to fiddle. Martin can play anything, anytime.

Lastly, the Shannon Roses are such a powerful basketball team, that the other side didn’t even bother turning up! They have now won 17 of all the 18 games in the comp. The grand final is coming up, so be ready for some outrageous behavior that day!

Dan's Report

Hey fellow Thetan YourSpacians,

Another great night; one of those trashy one’s we have from time to time. It’s GOOD trash. It’s thrash trash. We love it!

I thought it might help if I recited the YS MC list (we had a heap of chops and changes, WoW!):

I got up. I did covers fairly, and by popular demand did my ‘Protection Resurrection’.
Joe got up with RobRoy©, our new star bassist. They played the Motels, Matt Finish, had a jam, and a rocked out version of Joe’s song “Stumble”, (they relieved with a bit of a jam later, in which a lot of us got involved).
Melanie did about 5 songs.
Then we did Noel early, and with RobRoy© we played ‘I’m a Believer, ‘Act Naturally’, etc, except bloody Noel hijacks the song list and just carries on with what he thinks the audience wants to hear. He’s usually right, but BASTARD!!


Then Raija was up, but there was stuffing around with the guitar so I called Dave on and then wondered if I should have. I shouldn’t have but it worked out because Raija came on afterwards and was the sublime to Dave’s ridiculous.

I love Dave. He’s just hanging out till he can play drums downstairs. Good on him for trying out the distortion. It was completely out of control, but the experience it must give when such a thing happens in front of an observing audience is invaluable…? He is a star, mark my kurds.

The order gets a bit hazy from here, but you will know by the recording. The artists following were:

Madonna ‘Ana bh’bek min kul albi’ ‘I love you with all of my heart’. All of my heart loved to see her there. Isma Salib. All is new if you give it time.
Marni, for the love of her mum, Raine, who came to watch her play and is a cool chick herself.
Rex Havoc and the Jihad, who were Rex, Joe playing magnificently, Doug on awesome face harp, (and others I can’t recall at the minute).
The fabulous Slow Downs, who were the Throw Downs after the last beer song (of course the amazing Doug, and those two other dudes. Then there was a jam with others involved; it was GREAT).

Uncle Hal joined Uncle Rex to sing that song called “’A Kiwi try-a-fuck Shea-rer”.
Grant and Chris played as only they can. The audience was beaming. It’s seems we love their complete ambivalence to order and structure. It’s magic.

Then I’ve lost it after that. I blame Noel, because I always do and he knows it. I know Leynie and I played with RobRoy©, Noel got up as only he can, didn’t Doug get involved again?, Then we finished with a lot of not finishing. But it was worth it because everyone is a star at YSATS, and you guys deserve the lifetime achievement award for making it all possible. I love playing the ham, but the pig would not have got to market without you two (and Uncle Rex, God love him)!

Special guest observer status belongs to every one of our dear audience. I have received some laudatory praises for our show over these last six weeks in particular. Well done you lovelies.

Anyway, Warty has become a bit of an enigma, Masa accompanied Melanie, Ali Troy turned up to generally give her love, Brad just started a sound engineer course and accompanied Madonna (good luck to you, Brad), Jason was here with Marti and they are funny dudes. Marti stole my pen and put it down her top and I told her I would come and get it and she said O.K. and , just then, Joe and RobRoy© were on their last song and no one was willing to go next, so I had to go. Ah well, Melanie is a dear girl, and I got my pen back… Jason was the one playing ashtrays rather well, I thought.

Lee, John the POM, Jonno the big dude with a big heart (who can also play piano accordion and should be taken to task on it; he’s a bit shy), To the Shannon Rose basketball team who beat their only real rivals in the competition 18-8 and will probably meet them in the final, to those we can’t recall but love, and those people we see just once but who still always leave with a smile on their face.

And of course, dear Pat and Enya; they are the other stars of this whole equation. A query goes out to Dave, who is lovely bloke, was a Shannon barman who has performed at YS, but now seems to lounge around the pool tables with his friends, What gives? How can I get some of that action?

As I said, it’s something special, fellow Thetan YourSpacians.

P.S. ...and we can’t forget Robert, who accompanied Raija. He is a songwriter himself, and we encouraged him to come back with his own stuff. I hope he does because he strikes me as brilliant...

One could hear them as one arrived this evening. The enigmatic emanations were luring one into The Shannon with soothing deep soul driving tones. Turned out to be Joe and Dan doing a duo. And thereupon I beheld, for the first time, a bass in the hands of MC Dan, who usually plays piano...

All of a sudden at YourSpace, the humble bass has gone from zero to hero! This week we were surrounded by basses ripe for the playing. And they added an extra dimension of depth and warmth to many of tonight's performances.

And so forthwith did commence an awesome evening of entertainment, that featured many YS regulars as well some exciting new talents making their YourSpace debuts. The debuts were as follows:

• First there was Gene who we remember from the QL days, dropped in for a visit, and was persuaded to give us the great benefit of some of his (typically) excellent performances (for the first time at YourSpace).
• Then there was Raija, who is just starting to come out publicly as a musician, chose to grace us with her soulful guitar and vocals and great original songs for the first time.
• And then there was the fabulous Mardi (aka Captain Corelli, aka Brett) on mandolin, and Corrine on vocals, who provided some spirited performances and good ol' foot tapping tunes, with an irresistable charm.

Last weeks debut Dub returned for another really great performance, and this time a few people joined in on the jam. Now this guy is a real polished performer. Great singer, great guitar player and excellent entertainer. And then later on he showed off some great basslines too! Definately a privilege to hear and see.

Finally, Morgan & Ben rate a mention not only for being their usual class act, but also for bringing new material, jamming hard, and generally rocking the free world all the time!

At last, the long awaited return of Your Space! There were many who thought they could never last the whole two weeks break without it, but for those that did, congratulations - you survived.

In the true spirit of YS there were a number of revelations on the night. Perhaps most notable were the two discoveries which came in the talented forms of "Dan the Man", and "Dub", two new solo performers who both performed entertaining and very solid sets.

Patience, patience ... it's coming soon !! Only a few more sleeps until the beast re-awakens, on Thusday the 11th January at 8pm back at the good old Shannon Hotel ! Plans for the new year include more tributes, mp3s, blogs, photos, radio interviews, giveaways, videos, and websites, and on top of all that, yet more of that great undiscovered talent that's out there waiting to be unearthed.

Meanwhile, I've just been up at planet Peat's Ridge for the last 4 days checking out the Festival. And all I can say is WOW! I'm still recovering from the awesome feast of sounds and sights. It was like something out of a cross between Mad Max and Godspell, but bigger - much bigger. Apparently there were some 10,000 people that attended, along with countless performers. And on new years eve, almost everyone was in some kind of costume. Absolutely bloody amazing.
