By all accounts, a great night was had. There was a huge crowd, and "everyone" turned up to perform and or support (well almost). Robert came along, John Cunane brought some new effects, Noel led the Christmas Carols and all joined in.

Your Space is leaving in 7 days - Get on it ! Thats right - it's the last chance to get your face at your space in 2006. When the final day of reckoning arrives, and they look back at the year 2006, you definately would want to be able to stand up and say "Hey! At least I gave at Your Space!". If you miss next week, you will have to wait 2 long weeks for your next chance to avoid retribution, when we finally return on Thursday 11 Jan back at the good ol' Shannon Hotel in Abercrombie St.

In other news ... the real news story of 2006 is not what they told you in the media. It's what happened when a bunch of musos, artists and performers and friends, and various other species of small furry animals, all got together and huddled in a cave and started grooving with a pict (see Pink Floyd - Umugumma for further explanation).

Meanwhile this evening was another great night, probably most notable for the fabulous debut of Paper Fish and the Tamps, appearing for the very first time at Your Space. We first met band member Simon last week, when he turned up to join in the fun of the Floyd Tribute, and he impressed us all with some really great electric guitar work. And then this week he brought along some mates, and provided the highlight of the evening (unfortunately, the recording has some clipping as you can hear below).

Other historic moments included when Brenden became the first ever player to be sent off during a match! And then after that, became our first verbal streaker by streaking back on stage to continue his act. Shocking! It's just not cricket any more old chap!

As usual, the recordings feature that special bootleg, under the seat quality. It sounds like the microphone was in the bathroom along with 100 people having a conversation. As I always say. My dodgy recordings in no way do justice to the artists that appear there upon. But you get the idea - I hope.

We are all in the Pink after an incredible evenings entertainment provided by Rex, Kathy, Leyne, Dan and a legion of priceless performers and their supporters, and the good grace of our fine host Pat. The new stage location, amongst the ongoing renovations, was a sureal and most apt setting, as we performed the wall pulling down and purging ceremony for Pat (thus allowing Pat and all who visit The Shannon to find favour with the gods forever more). And on top of that the music was rockin' great and much fun was had by all! Check it out...

Apologies to earlier performers who did not make it onto the recording, as there was a mechanical failure that unfortunately prevented capturing the first hour or so. Technically ... This week the recording was made directly from the mixer so the quality is high, and background noise is low, however instruments not coming through mixer were not picked up except through the vocal mics. In the following files, I compressed the audio to fix as best I could.

After a two month hiatus, finally recommenced recording the artists at Your Space at The Shannon (see below for samples). It's been a fantastic year, with a lot of changes occuring in that time. When I think back to how we have all grown and developed, and what we have created, I am totally amazed and impressed by what we have all done! Things seem to be going well, with all the regular contributors continuing to make it all happen into the aproaching new year. The number of luminaries that have now come on board are truly astounding! Mainly thanks to the tireless efforts of Leyne, Rex and Dan - we are all still here today! Yahooooo! - Hal

It's over! It's been an 8 month journey, an odyssey of epic proportions. The struggle to raise the veil of darkness and illuminate the cosmos with sound, song and silliness. Gradually, through tireless effort and unerring aim, we managed to forge a small island of hope in a world of commerce and trickery (admittedly, only to be gobbled up by the latest poker craze - I'm sure there is something in that for us all).

True to form, the following contributors were on duty, providing support, and fighting the eternal fight for right on the night. Many have been there almost every night:

• Leyne The Lovely inspired the unconverted, and fired up the engines for success.
• Rex The Brave and steadfast who rallied the masses, and handled the hecklers.
• The incontravertible(*) Simon (Dr Quantum), our enigmatic leader, who led and inspired us all by (hypothetical) example.
• Trip was an ascendance to a heavenly plane.
• Morgan (along with Ben) was a true delight.
• Maddona is the heart and soul of the night.
• Marnie (MJ Numen) was totally fascinatingly interesting sight.
• Martin was our mascot and our mate, and was ever on my right.
• Dan was the man who always can if anyone can.
• Daxton was an inspiration to the nation.
• John Cunane is the sonic solution that could sooth any savage beast.
• Noel was no Elle. But he played a great Queen (song) in any case!
• The incredible Mr John Hooper was ... (I seem to be lost for words here) ... absolutely incredible.
• The Flaming Galahs were squawking and carrying on, and foraging around for witchetty grubs.
• The prodigal Brenden returned to give us our first true voice.
• The irrepressible Steve was our image maker, and the official defender of the Schwartz.
• The pioneering Sir Josh, with his legendary lifetime of service defending the Schwartz, was with us to the very end, with maid Angela by his side.
• Meanwhile, the valiant squire Hal fought to contain the feedback loop monster, and protect the innocent from bad sound syndrome, while absorbing some of the raw cosmic Schwartz rays.

Other artists and contributors from throughout our lifespan, that we'll never forget, and always regard fondly (apologies for any omissions, list is still being compiled) include:

Here is the full sample list for the evening. This time I'm putting up every single musical performance that occured on the night! That's because it was such an action packed night and there were so many artists, that many only got to play one song each! (There are altogether 40 samples here totalling 29.6 MB)

Well what do you know, as usual, there were some technical problems. This time the sample rate was too low, providing some digital hashing of higher frequencies.

The point is though, that these recordings in no way do justice to the performances provided by the artists that appeared. In fact no recording ever could, which is why live music is here to stay, always has been and always will be! Long live the spirit of The Quantum Lounge.

P.S - The 'Just Add Quantum' instant band "Worn Out Porno" (Madonna, Benny Love, Marc & Leyne ) showed incredible promise & we hope they will become a permanent QL act. The antics of the mystery drummer .ie smashing over half the drum-kit ala' Keith Moon was total rock n' roll. Thanks again to TRIP for sharing their instruments & stage once again! Great guys!

[Preliminary Draft - by Hal] Tonight was characterised by a very good crowd and a very good time being had by all. Trip provided the spark to get us all rockin' and rollin' the whole night long. The night started off with a typical frenzy and late arrivals by some. Martin organised the foldback and mic stands from upstairs. Dan kept the crowd happy and provided the early evening entertainment during the extended setup time. Then once the mics arrived, Dan performed his set. After Dan, we had Rex, Melonie, and Marnie the marvelous. Then Trip performed their set (Chris on bass, Ben on guitars/lead vocals and Tim on Drums) That got everyone dancing - what more can I say? Then Mischa performed to a rousing reception (after enduring few altercations with the CD player). Flaming Galahs performed 3 songs then called up John Hooper to the stage to join in. Dan also joined in and we then proceeded to the first jam of the evening (Pretty Woman). Then Trip got back on stage and we jammed Perfect Day, Blue Moon. Then Mischa, and Marnie got up and we started jamming some Bowie numbers. Ziggy Stardust, Gene Genie, Then finally we were treated to Ching Chong by John Hooper unplugged. Other notes: Ivan came back to visit us after being missing for a while.

The Quantum Lounge - 30th July 2006 With comic Wil Anderson performing to a sold-out show upstairs, the Magic Man of Mellotron Madness 'In House' Dan McReed opened the evening with an adeptly articulated alternative show of stand-up & original songs.

Dan was followed by a new QL fave Marni, with her great set of heartfelt ballads. Marni also has recordings available including that of her punk band. (if you're after some Marni music - email: thequantumlounge@gmail.com & we'll hook you up)

Veruschka Buhrmester was next up, making her QL debut with her brilliant back-up guitarist Will. Doing a very tasty set of originals, Verushka was faced with yells of encore! encore! so once again took the stage & performed some great R&B tunes, including a great John Legend cover. Dr Quantum followed Veruschka with a couple of his spoken word performances, rounded off nicely with an original rap - complete with Blues Brother sunnies - very New York!

The rock-steady Flaming Galahs were up next showing off some fine riffs & licks and impressed as per usual.

Rex Havoc followed them with a couple of his more obscure songs (can he get any more obscure?) A freak of nature yes, but a very snappy dresser. And with spoon-support from the lovely Leyne, can do no wrong!

The beautiful Mischa was next up with magical renditions of both originals & Bowie covers supported by the 'Galahs and In House Dan, which this reported really loved. More power to Mischa! (The idea of a monthly QL Tribute night looks like a real happening with talent like hers - stay tuned for more info on this new QL night)

We were also treated to a return of QL's resident Opera Singer John Hooper who entertained with deft support by In House Dan.

The night was well rounded off with a performance by Simon's (Dr Quantum's) friend Robert, singing & playing a couple of cool tunes, nicely capped off by Simon joining him to do a Simon original, a real treat for all, but especially for QL regulars to enjoy. Til next time..your in Havoc... Rex.

The Quantum Lounge

Another great nights entertainment at the QL. Our usual small but exclusive audience was bolstered by the group having a 'Xmas In July' party at Jarrah's Brasserie who came over for a listen (at the invitation of one of the bar staff) Only under the proviso that we would sing some Christmas songs, which we did!

'In House' Dan McReed started off the festivities with his stand-up routine & after getting a few good laughs sang some of his own songs, accompanying himself on the keyboard. He has been a great addition to the QL, not only for his solo performances but for the way he accompanies other singers & makes everyone feel at home & welcome. 'In House' Dan played with a brave contender over from the Xmas Party crowd, Maureen, who sang 'Crazy' and got rapturous applause from the crowd. Another Xmas party attendee, Len joined the stage for a solo un-backed performance of an old Bing Crosby number and got a very warm reception - just what an Open Mic night is all about!

A new QL act, 'TRIP' were next to take to the stage & first to christian the drum deus at QL. They played a great set of originals with Chris Wilson (The REAL Chris Wilson) on bass, expertly backed by brothers Ben & Tim on guitar/vocals & drums - brilliant young musos! TRIP were followed by our regulars 'The Flaming Galahs' who grooved along with the usual cool & did only the second live performance of their new song (a sample of which can be found under their info in the 'Artists' section of this page) to the delight of the crowd. We hope it stays in the set-list - great song!

Rex Havoc did his usual fill-in songs & even got up to do a classic 'Eddie Vedder changes the words version' of Pearl Jam's 'Betterman' with TRIP, who did TWO encore sets & totally rocked out. So good were TRIP that they got reclusive QL Artist Co-ordinator Leyne up to sing The Doors classic 'LA Woman'. The QL crowd waits with baited breath as Leyne withholds her guitar originals from the crowd.

The night was capped off with TRIP doing the Hendrix classic 'Purple Haze' in fine style & from an audience request they even rocked out with an AC/DC number. We sure hope TRIP will be joining the QL again! We'll keep you up to date. Don't forget to spread the word about the Open Mic and (as they say in Iraq), bring a few more bodies in!

Wow! I know I keep saying that. But what else can I say? It just keeps getting better. Two words - exciting new talent, and great teamwork - oops that’s 6 words - what the heck.

First of all, thanks to all the regular contributors, for really helping to pull off a great night. The teamwork, was really great, probably because we were all in trouble with Josh for forgetting to tell him we weren't coming to pick him up. But none the less, I think we reached a new level of cohesion and cooperation.

Then, apart from all the regular talents of Simon, Rex, & Daxton, and those of the wonderful Mischa, we were also treated to the fabulous Stamperdown Choir and the exciting new talent of M.J.Numen.

Wasn't M.J. great! That's the most exciting for me. That's my dream, to be a place where talented young performers can come to a great venue with great sound and a great audience and a supportive production team, to make their one and only ever debut (in Newtown)! Imagine if there were a few such people turning up for the first time, every Sunday night. Just imagine the buzz, of how we could help all these anxious artists break through to their destiny. Remember what it was like the first time you performed on stage. It's hard to imagine a more exciting moment in life!

And then imagine how there could be a buzz out there in the community about this place where artists and their mates can go and feel really welcome and supported. We can all only be enriched by the association with such a pool of potential talent.

Still, the key to all this is to have a slick operation which effectively delivers a great service to these performers (and the key to that? plans, and the key to that? meetings and planning).

'Cause there are plenty of places out there where they are going to get a lot more attitude and less support or services than we can give. We have all the ingredients (except for a slick promotional campaign and heaps of capital), we've got the venue, the equipment, and the full support team including MC, DJ, engineer etc, and the friendly faces (that you need when you are a newie).
